And finally, if there is time and interest, I will share some of my experiences – the pleasures and difficulties – as an engineer working on what is considered to be the traditional territory of biologists and medical researchers. In my countries (Ireland and UK), there is a very wide gap between engineering approaches and life scientists. The gap is preventing progress in understanding diseases – and so it must be overcome. I would like to hear Japan’s experiences and solutions.
